Why an Artist Writes About Love

People sometimes ask why a rapper and dancer would write a book about love.

To me, it's the same job.

Every great song is about a feeling, and love, in all its forms, is the biggest feeling there is. It's the reason people write, perform, build and take risks. Love for family, love for a city, love for the craft and love for another person are all part of the same story.

Music and writing also share a purpose: they help people say what they can't say on their own. A verse can put words to a moment. A book can put words to a whole relationship.

That's why "Intimacy Rules: The Book on Love" and my music belong together. Both are about connection, and connection is what the L in LUI FAZO stands for.

I also think artists have a responsibility. We reach people when they're happy, heartbroken and everything in between. Putting care into what we say is part of the job.

Whatever you create, ask what it's really about underneath. For me, the answer is almost always love.
